The Circular Footwear Alliance becomes Green Gear Alliance
19 February 2025The Circular Footwear Alliance becomes Green Gear Alliance.
From 18 March, the collection box for used safety shoes will change: collections will be expanded to include work textiles and PPE. "This is an important step towards a sustainable and waste-free future," says Fabian Groven, sustainability manager EMMA Safety Footwear. The collection of safety shoes, work textiles and PPE will soon take place under the name Green Gear Alliance (GGA).
Three earths
Until now, EMMA collected used shoes through the Circular Footwear Alliance (CFA) and these shoes are incorporated into new raw materials. "As a co-founder of the CFA, we are very pleased to see this expansion," says Fabian. "We have a major materials problem on our planet. If we carry on like this, we will need the resources of three earths by 2050. One solution is increasing the reuse of existing materials. The GGA makes a contribution to this."
Legislation
"For a large number of product groups, Extended Manufacturer Responsibility has been established by law," Fabian continues. "This means manufacturers and importers are responsible for the waste management of their products and materials. So, what happens to the materials they produce after the product's lifetime? At EMMA, we already took that responsibility through the CFA. From January 2027, this will be mandatory for all shoe manufacturers."
