WORLD CHAMPION

World champion brewers Malheur - awarded the title of 'Best Dark Beer in the World' - also use Emma Safety Footwear.

BUGGENHOUT – For the second year in a row, Malheur Brewery in Buggenhout, Belgium, has been awarded the title of ‘Best Dark Beer in the World’ for its Malheur 12 beer. Malheur 10, a special blond beer, also won a gold medal during the annual ‘World Beer Award Contest’. Why are we reporting this in our newsletter? Because all employees of Malheur Brewery wear Emma Safety Shoes. Furthermore, Emma's dealers will be receiving a very special end-of-year gift: a bottle of Malheur 12 (that's right, the world champion!) and a special Malheur beer glass. Manu De Landtsheer, owner and director of Malheur Brewery, said "in our eyes, Emma is also a world champion, as only they can meet the extremely strict safety standards that our company sets for safety footwear."

Manu De Landtsheer comes from a long line of family brewers. One of his distant ancestors, Balthazar De Landtsheer, set up the brewery in 1773, and 241 years later it remains in the family. Manu De Landtsheer not only continues the family brewing tradition, he is adding a new dimension to it, as evidenced by the world championship accolades awarded to Malheur Brewery’s beers. "You can only do this by using the very best raw materials", said De Landtsheer, "just like Emma uses the very best materials to create what we believe to be the best safety shoes in the world. All of our employees, from brewers to drivers, wear Emma Safety Shoes. At Malheur Brewery, no other brand is good enough." In Manu De Landtsheer's opinion, the success of both Malheur and Emma is all about professional knowledge, expertise and experience. One company has been brewing beer since 1773, the other has been producing safety footwear for over 80 years. Manu's father was the first in his family to be awarded the officially recognised title of 'Brewing Engineer'.

End-of-year gift

This month (December), Emma's customers can discover for themselves just how delicious the world champion beer Malheur 12 is. Manu De Landtsheer: "It is a great honour for Malheur Brewery to provide the end-of-year gifts for Emma's dealers." Emma's Belgian dealer-customers may well already know where to get their Malheurs from, as it is available from many outlets in Belgium. But Manu De Landtsheer also has good news for his Dutch neighbours: "Our world champion beers are available from a large number of branches of the wholesaler Sligro." You can also buy it from many off-licences and specialist stores, as the demand for Belgian special beers, particularly Malheur, is growing all the time.
The burning question for a traditional brewer: what's the best drink for lunch or dinner - Malheur or a glass of fine wine? De Landtsheer: "Why not choose both? One thing is certain: Malheur beers are the perfect accompaniment to many dishes. You don't have to have wine all the time, do you?"
